ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS
Overview
Environmental Affairs is a government department established under Section 93(1) of the Constitution of Malawi to exercise general supervision and coordination over all matters relating to the management of the environment and natural resources. We promote conservation, sustainable use, and protection of the environment and natural resources in line with the principles of sustainable development, as articulated in Agenda 21 of the Rio Convention, Johannesburg Plan of Implementation (JPOI), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS III) and other development goals.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AND POLLUTION CONTROL DIVISION

ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING, MONITORING AND RESEARCH DIVISION
This Division is responsible for forward planning and coordination review of environment and natural resources sectoral policies in line with national goals and international agreements. This involves monitoring the quality of climate change management and environmental performance in order to address climate change and environmental issues in respect to regulatory, economic and planning tools. www.ead.gov.mw
COMPLIANCE AND LEGAL ENFORCEMENT DIVISION

Formulate and develop environmental policies and enabling legislation as need arises in space and time.

Review environmental policies and legislation/regulation for purposes of amendment and harmonization with other sectors.

Coordinate the litigation process and prosecution of cases for and against the Department/Government, including liaison with external lawyers where legal services have been out sourced. www.ead.gov.mw
